Mayor of Stockport Visits British Pageant

The Mayor of Stockport and her consort joined Bishop Richard Shuttleworth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Church’s British Pageant 2017, a Victorian theatrical production involving 700 volunteers. The Latter-day Saints are steeped in history within the Stockport area; early records show members of the Church in Stockport over 150 years ago. Officially the Church and its award-winning building on Bramhall Lane has been in Stockport for over 50 years.

Bishop Richard Shuttleworth remarked, “The 2017 British Pageant is a wonderful opportunity to understand more about our Christian ways, how we connected to some of the early reformers, and fundamentally how the Church started in the British Isles.”

The LDS British Pageant aired for 2 weeks in one of the largest temporary structures in Europe. Over 700 volunteers contributed to script writing, producing, costumes, staging and lighting, and most importantly acting. It's estimated over 16,000 people attended the Pageant.

The Mayor of Stockport Cllr. Linda Holt and her consort Ken Holt said: “We’d heard good advance reports of the Pageant, and when it was our turn to attend, we weren’t disappointed.  It was an excellent informative and entertaining evening.  The show was performed by amateurs, but the acting, singing, and dancing were all ’professionally’ done.  Everyone was so friendly too.”

The LDS church on Bramhall Lane has their annual free Fun Day on Saturday 16th September starting at 11:00 am featuring Bouncy Assault Course, Bouncy Slide, face painting, nail art, hair braiding and lots more.
