Norwich Joins in National Interfaith Week

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Norwich, Norfolk area recently took part in the National Interfaith Week by holding a sports event at the chapel, participating in a progressive meal at various places of worship in the city and joining an Interfaith Choir. The choir performed at the Norwich Anglican Cathedral and featured representatives from many faiths, including Buddhist, Jewish, Church of England and Spiritualist.

The leader and conductor of the choir was Christine Chamberlain. She taught and led the choir through four songs which had been specially selected by an Interfaith Committee to represent the different faiths. The Christian faith, which included The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chose “Amazing Grace”. The Jewish faith selected “Od Yavo Shalom Aleinu”, a song about peace, which the choir sang in Hebrew. “Colours of the Wind” from the film Pocahontas, was chosen to represent Pagans and the final song was, “What Have I Been Doing All My Life?” which was written by the conductor, herself a Buddhist.

These events have led to the developing of strong relationships between the representatives of the various faiths. It is hoped that further opportunities can be found to reach out and make a difference in the local community.
