Cardiff Perform A Song For The Season

Members of the Cardiff Wales Choir from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently went to sing at the Plasgeller Care Home in Brynmawr. The choir, who had performed a concert at the London Temple just a week previously, sang a variety of Christmas hymns to the elderly people who had gathered there.

The choir, led by Lisa Pengilley, had been practicing for months previously to ready themselves for various performances they had lined up over the Christmas season. The effort they put in was greatly appreciated by those who heard them. Some of the residents of Plasgeller started to join in with some of the Christmas carols as the choir sang, bringing a touching sense of togetherness to the evening.

Lisa said “I felt the spirit the moment we started singing. And just going on from what the Church leaders have said in a recent talk, and how we need to serve more, to get involved in our community… Where much is given, much is required. We can sing, and we should do it, and do more of it.”

Christine Abbas, a member of the Baha’i faith and a care worker at Plasgeller, said, “I think it’s really, really nice. And even people who don’t have a religious background were thoroughly enjoying it. Music is just so important to the people here”. Residents thanked members of the choir for their performance.

The Cardiff Stake choir doesn’t intend to let this be their last performance for the Christmas season, but has plans to go out carol singing in the weeks ahead. They intend to share the gift of music with many others over the Christmas season, showing that remembering Christ at Christmas is not so much about what we receive, but what we give.
