European youth celebrate their mothers

Many mothers are celebrated for their kindness, care and love. Some young members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints celebrate their mothers’ faith in the following video:

When they were asked to speak about their mothers’ faith, some youth got emotional as they recounted stories.

For The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the word “mother” is “a sacred title referring to a woman who bears or adopts children… [and] assist[s] in God’s plan by providing mortal bodies for God’s spirit children.” Regarding the role mothers have in their children’s lives, Elder Jeffery R. Holland, Church apostle, said:

To all of our mothers everywhere, past, present, or future, I say, ‘Thank you. Thank you for giving birth, for shaping souls, for forming character, and for demonstrating the pure love of Christ.’ To Mother Eve, to Sarah, Rebekah, and Rachel, to Mary of Nazareth, and to a Mother in Heaven, I say, ‘Thank you for your crucial role in fulfilling the purposes of eternity.’”

Mother’s Day began in 1908 in the United States and is still celebrated throughout the whole world. Countries throughout Western Europe celebrate Mother’s Day on different days, spanning between February and June. Anna Jarvis, the woman who helped establish the Mother’s Day tradition, said it is a day to honour mothers – “the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world,” according to a newsletter from the U.S. Department of Education.

There are more than 515,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Europe and more than 16 million worldwide.
