Winter blues were banished as the Dewsbury congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints staged a special “ Winter Warmer” show. This variety show was performed by a mix of member and non member artistes in front of special guests, the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Kirklees, Councillor Jim Dodds and his wife Mrs Carol Dodds who later commented on how much they had enjoyed the evening which raised funds for Kirkwood Hospice.

The show was produced by Tracey King, Steven Green and Geoff Simpson otherwise known as “TSG Productions” with Helen Dixon as the stage manager. The truly memorable evening was made possible by the generosity of the volunteer performers. One of the highlights of the evening was the dancing of the La Fay Dance School from nearby Gomersal whose director was very impressed with the stage facilities that the church provided. Their youngest dancer caused Councillor Dodd to remark that her performance was “the highlight of the evening,”
Local Church leader, Bishop Sutton invited the audience to donate to a “bucket collection” for the local Kirkwood Hospice which raised £196 plus another £60 from a tuck shop which was in aid of a forthcoming Young Men’s camp.
Everyone connected with the show agreed with Tracey King, one of the organisers of the show, when she said, “It was a great night and we had many friends come along to watch the show. It was a good opportunity to show that Latter-day Saints enjoy having fun”.
