Local MP attends Coventry Christmas Carol Concert

More than 400 people attended the annual charity Christmas Carol Concert organised by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended by the Lord Mayor of Coventry, Councillor Michael Hammon as well as Mr Jim Cunningham, MP for Coventry South and Keith Redhead, President of the Coventry Phoenix Rotary Club.

In addition to sharing the story of the Saviour’s birth, taken from the New Testament, and the singing of Christmas Carols, the concert allowed those attending to provide much needed gifts for under-privileged local children. Attendees of the concert generously donated toys, books and other gifts, which were subsequently distributed by the Rotary.

The congregational singing was complemented by a number of special musical items performed by choirs and groups, including music from some very brave young children.

Speaking of the charitable donations and good done by the event, the Lord Mayor commented, “I was delighted to attend the Christmas Carol Concert and to see all the wonderful donations made for local children. It is gratifying to see that we have so many generous people in our city. I would also like to thank the Coventry Phoenix Rotary Club for organising the collections.”

Keith Penfold, Church leader in the Coventry area, expressed his delight at the purpose and result of the charity focused concert, he said, “We are grateful to work with our friends from Rotary to help children in our community. Christmas time is an opportunity for all of us to remember the birth of Jesus, but more importantly to help someone around us, as that is the essence of the example set by Jesus”.
