New youth program to come into effect with the New Year

Beginning January 1, 2020, youth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will begin participating in new youth programs created and sponsored by the Church.

In May of 2018, leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ announced plans for new resources and programs to help all young children and youth ages 8-18, to build faith in Jesus Christ, develop life skills, and fulfill their divine roles as children of God.

This new initiative will replace all existing activity programs, but until that time church leaders encourage full involvement and support in the existing programs. The new initiative will include weekly activities, high adventure activities, camps, conferences and more. Activities are meant to be based on needs rather than requirements and will be under the discretion of local leaders to best fit the needs of the youth in their respective areas. Local leaders, parents, and children are encouraged to seek out activities that will invite the spirit.

The Church released the following statement explaining changes:

"The children and youth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worldwide are precious to us. They represent our future, and ministering to their needs is a significant focus for the Church. For years, Church leaders have been preparing a new initiative to teach and provide leadership and development opportunities to all children and youth, to support families, and to strengthen youth everywhere as they develop faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This new approach is intended to help all girls and boys, young women and young men discover their eternal identity, build character and resilience, develop life skills, and fulfill their divine roles as daughters and sons of God."
