It has been a hundred and seventy five years this year since the first LDS missionaries landed on these shores bringing the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. Many thousands, possibly millions of British people have joined the church since those early days and enjoyed the blessing which come with membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The church in Britain will be celebrating this marvellous anniversary by holding an open air concert on the site of the first baptism, which took place in Preston on July 30th 1837. There were 8,000 onlookers that day; we hope to exceed this number in July.
This will be a wonderful opportunity for the Mormons in Britain to remember their heritage and celebrate the history of the church on these islands. It will be a time to look back; a time to rejoice together as we sing the hymns of the restoration along with a large LDS choir gathered from seven stakes. We shall also have the opportunity to enjoy the words of past and present church leaders.
Those who wish to attend the 175th Anniversary Celebration Concert, in Preston on the 7th July 2012, which is taking place on the site of the first baptism performed by Heber C Kimball in 1837, are now able to obtain E-tickets for their family and friends by sending their Name, Ward, Stake and the number of tickets they require to email@example.com.
All tickets are free and will be returned by e-mail
The 175th celebration ticket office has recently opened and have already received requests for tickets from members who live in all four quarters of Britain. Latter-day Saints from Devon, London, South Wales and Scotland have requested tickets, proving our members are prepared to travel the length of Britain to meet with the Saints and attend this historic occasion.
